【晴報專欄】馬航MH370失蹤足足17日之後，馬來西亞政府才宣布客機已經在南印度洋墜毀（crashed）。可是，馬來西亞政府是如何得出此結論呢？家屬需要清楚知道因由。
留意，不要將crash與clash混淆，雖然兩者都可以解作「碰撞」，但是crash指的是猛烈碰撞，釀成意外，強調損毀和傷亡；clash則是指人與人之間的碰撞、衝突，或時間、色彩等的不協調。例如，撞車、電腦死機、股市大跌可以用crash——The car/computer/stock market crashed。
至於意見不合、撞時間、撞色，可以用clash——Their views clashed./time clash/
colour clash。
另外，crash和clash的讀音亦不一樣，crash讀[kr]，/r/音要捲舌；而clash讀[kl]，/l/音要把舌頭由上而下拍打一下，猶如讀中文「啦」字。
口語crash out可以解「昏睡」，因為太累，很快睡着，尤其是指當場就地昏睡了。例句：He got so tired that he crashed out on the back seat of the car until morning.（他累得在車子的後座昏睡到早上。）

不是crash
雖然中文crash是"相撞"，但是是指撞擊/撞倒那類有物質損壞的衝撞。

clash是用來表示不能同時存在或共融的情況，除了時間外，亦可用在一些衝突事件表達兩方面的"對立"。
