Hello help with science about sodium metal used in light experiment?

Hello, can someone help me about an experiment that was conducted on light, and sodium metal was used as one of the apparatus. The photoelectric effect, was where sodium metal was used, so can someone tell me as to why it was used thanks.

Sodium is in Period 3 of the periodic Table. Its electronic structure is relatively simpler compared to d block transition metals. So it is a suitable metal for the photoelectric effect.
