(x - 4)² is a complete square, so that it is not necessary for further work of completely square.

(x - 4)² = 5
x - 4 = √5 or x - 4 = -√5
x = 4 + √5 or x = 4 - √5

Is this (x-4)^2 = 5? I will assume it is and so just work it out from here:

(x-4)(x-4) = 5

x^2 - 8x + 16 = 5

x^2 - 8x + 11 = 0

Now use whatever method you like to find the roots. I suggest Quad Formula.

[ x - 4 ]² = 5
x - 4 = ± √5
x = 4 ± √ 5

The square is already complete.
