According to the occupation government website, $72,220 a year, with only 2% job growth estimated in the field for the next 10 years.

Those in biological sciences - such as cellular biologists - make more, up to $75,000 a year, but no job growth in the field in the next 10 years is predicted.

Check out O*Net, put your job field in the top right search box. It's an extensive site with good date.

It all depends on what type of biologist you are. If you are in higher education it varies by grade. A lecturer may start out at £18,000 per annum with a professor earning a top salary of £90,000. Additional responsibilities, e.g. head of department, may increase salary. I do not know what research staff in other organisations earn. Those who work in the private sector almost certainly will earn more than those who work in the public sector. If money if your prime motivation do not become a scientist.

There are many careers in which you can earn more money than any kind of scientist. The courses you need to take are also known to be easier. The education pathway is usually shorter as well so you can be earning sooner. This is definitely one of the reasons that fewer students are studying the sciences and why HE institutions have closed or merged science departments.
