It will be dependent on how much RAM and the processor you have on your laptop. You may start by adding more memory and getting rid of all unnecessary programs.

uninstall programs that u don't use anymore
press ctrl alt del on ur kayboard > go to task manager > and end the process that is taking too much CPU.
try lowering the graphics settings.
clean the dust off the CPU heatsink.
disable startups that u don't use anymore.
scan ur computer for virus.

1. Reset your laptop
2. Don't download more stuff than you need, and discard
3. Run your AV
4. Change your power plan to high performance
5. Install anti malware, like malwarebytes
6. Do a disk cleanup once in a while
