Let the linear function f(x) and the piecewise function g(x) be defined as
f(x)=3x-4
g(x)= 5-x, x< 5
............0, x ≥ 5
find all x for which f(x)=g(x).
is it 5-x=3x-4
and 0=3x-4
and how do you simplify it?

The lines y = 3x - 4 and y = 5 - x intersect only once
That is when 3x - 4 = 5 - x leading to
x = 9/4, y = 11/4
The fact that g(x) is discontinuous when x = 5 does not affect that intersection as it is over to the right.
The question expressed as "find all x for which... " seems designed to confuse you
