A needle.
A gun cannot be sterilized. Meaning that you are getting low quality dirty jewelry that can very easily cause infection. How a gun works is that is just shoves the jewelry in your ear. It causes excess damage to the ear, meaning that it hurts much much more, and it takes twice as long to heal. Because it just shoves the jewelry in your ear, it forces the cartilage to shatter. Then your body has all of these puzzle pieces of cartilage that want to go back in place but they can't, because there is jewelry in the way. This causes cartilage deformation, makes it very very painful for weeks if not months, and takes 12 months minimum to heal.
When you get it done with a needle, it is almost painless. IT removes a tiny piece of cartilage to make room for the jewelry, which is why it doesn't hurt nearly as bad if at all. IT takes 6 - 12 months to heal, and there is no cartilage deformation. Not only that, but everything is perfectly sterile, like in a hospital. An autoclave is used to sterilize everything and all the tools. You can't put a piercing gun in an autoclave, it will melt.
IT is more expensive to get it done with a needle, but good things are not cheap and cheap things are not good. You want this piercing to heal well and look fantastic, you should get it done with a needle. you won't get that with a gun.
