We will have a short drive trip Next weekends. Our destination is a camping base, because we wanna have a camping party. The camping base doesn't provided any food and drinks. Thus we have to prepare food and drinks. Make sure keep them fresh, we need a cooler. Does it work well?? This is what I wanna buy:

That's a might expensive cooler for the size. If you're *just going overnight,* and need to keep *one meal* for one or two people cool, it might work. What you've pictured is just a glorified lunch box.

It depends how long you need to keep food cool, and how much food. For a weekend, it's woefully inadequate. Just get a big Coleman cooler, toss a couple blocks of ice in, and you'll be much better off.

I fill a big Tupperware container with water and freeze it for the cooler, a block lasts longer than cubes, A cooler is nothing more than an insulated box so if it keeps things cold if you have ice

Yes a good one. Of cork wood. I keep it wrapped in cardboard then wrapped in tinfoil & ducktaped. To prevent damage to it. Freeze your water in jugs so you have cold drinking water. Put some ice chopped in the bottom so it melts you have a inch of cold water in the bottom. This you set your food & other drinks in to stay cold. It will keep them at about 35 if you uses stainless containers with lids. I find the new plastic coolers do not work well at all here. Get warm very fast good for 1 day only if 1/3 full of bottled ice. Keep them closed as much as you can. We can get good cork coolers here in the islands made to size we wish. But this is the tropics & fishermen like the old stile cork ones for fish. Styrofoam breaks to easy. You might make your own from cork. to fit in a plastic storage box. A good styrofoam one cost a great deal like used on fishing boats.

Ice melts at 32 F, so if you want to keep your refrigerated stuff at close to that temperature, put ice inside the cooler with your cold stuff. If you bought stuff that's not ALREADY cold, your ice is going to melt faster. There are expensive "cold chests" that include a small 12v refrigeration unit, which actually works without ice.

Some coolers keep ice a lot longer than others and if people are constantly in one, the ice melts much quicker. I freeze container of ice so I have blocks that last longer. Do keep anything from contaminating the ice and keep food above where the water line (melted ice) will be. Often it is smart to put your food in one and keep it sealed and drinks in another if there will be a lot of people in it. yes you have to ice them up.

Put in ice, icepacks, or containers filled with water than frozen. If you are filling a container and then freezing it, don't put the lid on when you freeze it. If you do, it might crack because water expands when it freezes. They run warm water over it to melt to the point where you can put the lid on.

remember if you do put loose ice in the cooler it will be mixed in with everything else and eventually melt. packing it with just sealed cans or bottles of drinks is ok but if you put food in there, be careful of the packaging. don't let your hotdog juice leak all over everything.

Making ice in soda and water bottles will keep the chest cool.

My neighbor uses his to store used condoms. He's saving his bodily essences to use in a casserole someday. Don't blame me, he's a sick bastid to come up with some of his idears.
