Why do people shine lasers at airplanes?
I fail to see the fun of it. Do they really hope they're going to blind a pilot badly and see a crash?
All those people caught in the act should be tried for attempted pre-meditated mass muder if you ask me...

Curiosity, mostly, combined with a reckless disregard of the consequences. Let's face it, the first two things people do with their first laser pointer is play with a cat (if available) and take it outside in the dark to see how far it shines. After nearby houses and trees, for those stupid or callous enough, an aircraft is the next logical target.
Stupid people do stupid things. As to *why* they do them, who knows! Maybe *they* think it's funny, or maybe they're just being egged on by their stupid friends, who think it's funny. Likewise some idiots stand on motorway overpasses and drop stones onto cars below. Others get drunk and go for a drive. Who's to know what goes on in their heads, if anything...
To understand the motivations of a moron may require one to be a moron.
Since I have no desire to be a moron, and that you apparently are not either, I guess we'll never really know.
Does it matter?
It already IS illegal to aim a laser at an airplane in flight. Children playing with dangerous toys should be supervised.
Usually because they are Morons.
Because there are some really, really stupid people out there.
I say they're idiots who are trying to have some "fun".
I was flying once and there was a green laser light that just flashed in the plane. Had to report it. people are crazy man
Some people (not me like the idea of putting over a hundred people in danger.
Probably just to see if they can "hit" the plane with a laser. The Federal Government has blown it all out of proportion. It is just more "DANGER" people a shining consumer lasers at air planes, but they could be doing that with laser guided missiles if they wanted to.
