First off, it's hard for anyone to definitively say X is the best US military movie of all time. But if you force someone like me to pick: It's Patton (1970).
1) Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Heartbreak Ridge, Full Metal Jacket - can't be No. 1 because they are fiction. Didn't happen.
2) Paths of Glory?!? It's about the French
3) Tora! Tora! Tora! is a good candidate, but it ends in a huge American defeat. While accurate, ends on a sad note.
4) The Longest Day is good, except US forces make up only 25% of the picture.
5) Band of Brothers - nope, only because it's a series, not a movie.
That leaves Patton. No argument. (The only valid issue with Patton is the equipment used. Hey, it was 1970. No CGI.)
The Longest Day, Pork Chop Hill, The Thin Red Line, Sands of Iwo Jima, Gettysburg, Full Metal Jacket,
God's and Generals.
In my opinion It is "Tori! Tori! Tori!" Most accurate movie on the attack on Pearl Harbor If you want more read the book "At Dawn we Slept".
The Miracle of St. Anna........excellent , excellent movie.
