Activating Windows XP, No Internet?

I just prepared a computer with a legit, fresh install of Windows XP for retro-gaming reasons. Please don t try to convince me otherwise.

Problem is, I m being threatened with deactivation if I don t "activate" XP via the internet or by phone. I think phone is no longer an option anno 2016, so I tried internet.

Problem is, I can t seem to connect to the internet, either. I have a wifi hotspot in my home, but XP doesn t mention wifi anywhere (I assume it didn t exist yet back then). I clicked DSL. The internet setup window just closed without doing anything, and when I open IE it just says "no connection".

How do I get rid of the 30-day countdown timer, and/or how do I get it to connect to wifi? My PC has a wifi receiver, I ve used it back when that PC still had Win 7.

Your machine does not have a wireless network card,or you have not installed the drivers for the card. You need to connect it to the router with a network cable, assuming you have a wired network card and the drivers for that are installed. But there will be NO drivers written for any current machine as XP has not been supported for a long time.

I do not believe you will be able to activate it. I had an old laptop running Windows XP SP3 and it still ran perfectly but it could not be upgraded so I wanted to donate it to Goodwill. I wiped the drive and did a clean install of Windows XP. I plugged in the Ethernet cable so I could activate Windows and see if I could download any available updates and a screen popped up once I clicked on the Activate Windows icon that said I was using an obsolete operating system and an obsolete browser. It went on to say that activation was not possible and no updates were available for downloading. The message concluded by saying that I should install a current operating system and then activate that if I wanted to use this computer.

Whenever you install a new OS, especially if it is a clean install, you will have to manually download the network drivers from another device. This is usually done via usb flash drive from another computer. If you can plug your phone into your system and it gets recognized and the drivers install, you can use it to download the network driver for your system to your phone then transfer it to your computers harddrive. From there you can then install the network driver of your make and model computer with no issues.

If your using cable internet (Xfinity, Charter, Roadrunner, etc), running an ethernet cord from your modem/router to the ethernet on the back of your system should get you up and running. If not, you WILL have to transport the appropriate driver via flash drive or your phone/tablet.

I've transported many drivers via my Android SD card over the years. Works with iPhones also (If you have the space).

get a full version that you know the serial number too. You'll need to install wireless drivers don't think a XP machine with no firewall will last long on the net before it gets corrupted by some of the nastys getting around as now days if something identifys itself as XP its probably a bot so it gets booted. If you only want to run old games some sort of emulator wouldn't be hard to do.
