A spider is climbing on a wall.?

It starts at point A, moves straight up 15 inches, to the right 7 inches and then straight down 6 inches to stop at point B. If M represents the midpoint of AB, then find AM.
Moving up changes the y- coordinate by 15, moving right changes the x- coordinate by 7, so the coordinate is (7, 15). If it then moves down 6 inches decreases the y- coordinate by 6 to (7, 9). Now that we have two coordinates, we can find the midpoint.

15-6=9=y >>x=7 (0,0) to 7,9 mid point = ( 3.5 , 4.5 )

Draw a diagram!

Draw a line from B, perpendicular

to the 15" side. You now have a

right triangle with legs of 7 and 9 (15 - 6).

AB, the hypotenuse, is √(7^2 + 9^2) = √130

Since M is the midpoint of AB, AM + √130 / 2

So AM is the length, if we know the length of AB then it's just half

Since the change in x = 7 and the change in y = 9

d = sqrt(7^2 + 9^2) = sqrt(49 + 81) = sqrt(130)

So AM = sqrt(130)/2
