An apple is falling under the influence of gravity, and, while it is falling, a camera takes many rapid pictures of the apple. The camera takes a picture every 1/25 a second (0.0400 seconds).

Why does the spacing between the pictures of the apple seem to increase?

How far did the apple fall between the first and second picture if the first picture is taken at the intant the apple is released from rest?

How far did the apple fall between the second and third picture?

1. Because the speed is increasing as a function of time.

2. If we simplify and take g = 10 m/s², then
s(t=0.04) - s(t=0) = ½*10m/s²*(0.0400s)² - 0 = 0.00800 m = 8.00 mm

3. s(t=0.080) - s(t=0.040) = ½*10m/s²*(0.080s)² - 0.00800m = 0.0240 m = 24.0 mm

Hope this helps!
