When a surveyor on level ground sights the top of a tall building, his telescope makes an angle of 51◦ relative to the horizontal. When the surveyor moves 20.0 m further away, the angle is 42◦. Determine the height of the building.

Let h represent the height of the building. Then the distance from the building to the first telescope position is
.. h*cot(51°)
and the distance to the second telescope position is
.. h*cot(42°) = h*cot(51°) + 20
Solving for h, we get
.. h(cot(42°) - cot(51°)) = 20
.. h = 20/(cot(42°) - cot(51°))
.. h ≈ 66.48 ... meters
