It was an English teacher named Mr. Paulsen (funny how I remember it after 50 years).
English is a course where LIFE is discussed, through the interpretation of literature and symbolism ... and the issues OF living that literature addresses.
We used to have some FINE philosophical discussions in that classroom.
And Mr. Paulsen taught us how to look behind the surface of life.
