Which reconstruction? In what part of the world? At what point in history? Many events in history are described as "reconstructions".

Racism was strong in the North. Reconstruction meant fighting pig headed Southern men every step along the way, and people simply got tired of fighting fellow white citizens.

It's called "Reconstruction," not "THE reconstruction," you idiot. And it ended with a sleazy, crooked political deal. Republicans got the White House (despite losing the popular vote) in return for promising to remove troops from the south and letting southern whites basically re-impose slavery for another 90 years.

Political deal at the highest level.
Election night Nov.1876. The vote for president was tied, but the democrat 'Tilden' did win by 1 electoral vote. In return for letting the losing republican Rutherford Hayes be president instead, the democrats got the immediate end to all republican 'reconstruction' in the South.

It ended in stages as different Southern states were deemed reconstructed. It finally ended for good with the Compromise of 1877. The 1876 election had seen Republican Rutherford B Hayes squaring off against Democrat Samuel Tilden. However, there wasn't a straightforward outcome because three Southern states issued two different sets of results, one favoring the Democrats and the other the Republicans. An Electoral Commission was formed which ultimately decided to award the electoral votes to Hayes, making him president. As part of a compromise, Hayes purportedly agreed to withdraw the last federal troops from the South, officially ending Reconstruction.
