Router trouble!?

I have a DGN2200 ADSL Optus Modem/Router. I get 3.2 Mbps at most but when i'm downloading a steam game it sometimes jumps to 6.2 Mbps for a split second and then goes back to 3.2 Mbps. I went to an Optus shop and the guy said that I should be getting a lot more than 3.2 Mbps, as I live close to the exchange. Is a new modem the answer, and if it is, can you possibly recommend one under or at $150 AUD?

I live1411 m from exchange according to ADSL 2 Exchanges.com, also, stimated cable length is2187.05 m.

You only get what you subscribed to with your provider, what would the shop know about that? And if the router was a problem it would NEVER get the higher rate.

just tell your ISP that you are not getting the speed you are paying for
