Atoms lose or gain ekctrons to form a stable valence elctrons. What if an atom has 4 electrons? Does it gain or lose electrons?

It depends upon which element it is combining with in forming a compound. As an example, CH4. In this case Carbon grains 4 electrons from 4 different Hydrogen atoms in forming the compound. But Carbon would also lose 4 electrons if it combined with a non-metal type atom.
