He wants to redo my apartment to make it nicer and charge more then housing will allow on their budget... And more than I could ever pay out of my pocket extra. Do I have any legal standing? I've been a fantastic tenant and have never been late on the rent... And he's evicting me solely on this reason.. I'm questioning whether this is legal and if it is does anyone have suggestions on what my options are if I cannot find a place to move to? I'm very scared I will be homeless :-(

A landlord sets his own requirements. He can sell, fix, raise the rent whenever he
chooses. All landlords need to raise the rent occasionally. Increases in expenses
demand it.

I don 't think he can evict you mid-lease, unless you have violated it. Month to month, after the lease expires, he has a right to ask you to leave. It would have been better if you AGREED to move out within the 30 days given. Since you forced him to evict you, you will be homeless because nobody will rent to you now. Next time, be more agreeable and consult with a lawyer. We cannot fix a screw up. It is already of public record.

It is legal.
Your landlord is within his rights to discontinue accepting Section 8 or HUD.
If you can't afford the new rent, it is time to start looking for something else affordable.

Good luck

I'm very sorry for your circumstances, but your landlord owns the property and is free to do what he wants with it. If he chooses to no longer rent to you and not to accept section 8, that's a perfectly legal option.

He must honor any existing lease and provide you proper notice of his desire for you to vacate the property. However, once your lease expires he has no obligation to renew it.

I suggest contacting your Section 8 worker and ask them if they can help you locate another rental which will accept your voucher.

1) He's not evicting you.
2) As long as you are given proper notification, you can be asked to vacate. It's the landlord's house and he isn't obligated to rent to you forever.

I'm very sorry this is happening. I hope you are given plenty of time to make other arrangements.
