Octane has higher boiling point than 2.2,3-trimethylpentane.

Both octane (CH₃CH₂CH₂CH₂CH₂CH₂CH₂CH₃) and 2,2,3-trimethylpentane (CH₃C(CH₃)₂CH(CH₃)CH₂CH₃) have the same molecular formula C₈H₁₈. This is because 2,2,3-trimethylpentane molecule is more branched and this reduces area of contact between neighbouring molecules, and thus the van der Waals’ forces between molecules are reduced. Less energy is needed to separate 2,2,3-trimethylpentane molecules.
