Does he like me?

There's this guy that I really like. After he found out, we started to talk less, but he stared at me way more. He's a really nice guy, but when it's just us two talking to each other or we're in a small group, he's extremely sweet and uses a really nice/soft tone. He makes it seem like he cares about me.

A few of his friends started telling me that he finds me annoying, I scare him and I piss him off, then sometime after, he asked my friend if I hated him and apparently it sounded like he was about to cry. When I told him that I liked him, he was staring right into my eyes for a bit.

On the days when he's alone after school and we're near each other, he looks at me like he wants to talk to me but he never approaches me. Yesterday I said bye to him and he sounded really... excited? He's often looking at me though 😊 He makes me so happy and I care about him a lot and really like him. What should I do? Does he like me? He doesn't want a relationship atm. I was also talking to one of his mates a while ago and I said that he wouldn't date me but his friend said he would in 2 or 3 years.
