Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

When you open your mouth while you put mascara on it pulls your skin tighter under your eyes and changes the angle in which your eyelashes are facing and makes it easier to avoid accidentally getting mascara on your eyelids. Its kinda a habit
