The point is, it's NOT for YOU! It's for others, who see a point in having it. I have a 5-speed manual. I like it.
What's the point of texting while driving?
參考: Engine overhaul mechanic since 1972.
Driving manual transmission since 1969.
They are significantly more durable than automatic transmissions. They dont need to be "rebuilt" every 150k miles, as long as your clutch it still good its just a gearbox. The clutch usually will last the life of the car if you dont abuse it. Plus, more horsepower to the wheels and quicker 0-60 times in some cases where Dual Clutch (automated manual) transmissions arent used.
Automatics are really for the distracted drivers that need 1 hand free to text and do their makeup, having a manual transmission gives you more control of the vehicle, the engines RPM, and you can do burnouts.
Plus, an automatic transmission costs more than a manual transmission. Older vehicles came standard with a manual and you have to add like 1,000 dollars to get an automatic transmission. Its still the same.
Much more enjoyable to drive.
Some people love driving a manual transmission. But never vehicles now have more gears than the 5 and 6 speed manuals allowing them to get much better fuel economy. But, if they fail, will be more expensive to repair/replace as well. I spend 6K on replacing one in my Sport Trac earlier this year. But it's a V8 that I can get up to 20mpg with on road trips, which is impressive. Also, if you have a stick shift, and know how to drive it, it helps keep others from possibly wanting to borrow your ride if they don't know how to drive one. It seems that it's fading out each year. 20 years ago the vast majority of people knew how to drive one. I don't know of many people in their 20's that know how to drive one today.
Among many other reasons they are FUN!
For those who know how to drive them it's probably more fun.
I think it looks cool when I see someone know how to operate those things.
I can drive one if there is a lot of give... like if the car is really old.
The new ones I stall every time.
On small cars they are cheaper so reduce the cost of making the car.
Otherwise modern automatics are just so good.
From what I've been told it used to be that manuals were alot more durable and gave significantly better fuel efficiency back when autos were 2, 3, or 4 speeds. Now however automatics are more complicated and designed better so that really the only point to a manual is to rev the engine higher, get a little more hp, and have more fun when you drive. And yes you can get better mpg with a manual, but only if you shift early and where's the fun in that?
