Which enemy existed first in kingdom hearts, unversed or heartless?

I've only played 1 and 2, I've read up on the others but I can't seem to figure out which enemy was around first Not in game order, just what literally existed first.

Heartless existed first. They've been fighting heartless before. The Unversed only existed for the short time that Vanitas existed

Heartless were the enemies in the first game. I've never heard of the "unversed."
