Objects or openings that are relatively small in proportion to the wavelength have no effect, they may as well not exist as far as RF is concerned.

For one example, that is why a microwave oven can have a mesh over the window without leaking energy.

The holes are proportionally small at 2.4GHz but large at visible light wavelengths.
