A computer is 'one who performs mathematical calculations'. This used to be a person who specialised in mathematical calculations. In big organisations, there may have been dozens of computers, working out sales forecasts, insurance premiums and the like.

When electronic machines were invented to carry out complex tasks by means of multiple mathematical calculations, they were given the name 'computers' because they perform basically the same task as a human computer, but a LOT faster.

We think of computers as providing us with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, music storage, internet access and stuff like that but really, they are doing all these things by carrying out millions of mathematical calculations that control others parts that send data in pre-determined mathematical bundles to other devices/parts.

What we now think of as a computer is actually much more than a mathematical processing engine. We think of it as including the human interfaces (keyboard, mouse, monitor, headphones, web cam, microphone, touch-screen) and the net work interfaces (wireless connection, Ethernet connection, modem ports) and the peripheral connections (HDMI ports, VGA ports, DVI ports, USB ports, serial ports) and the associated circuitry and memory devices to make those things work.

A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out an arbitrary set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically. While popular usage of the word "computer" in the 2000s is synonymous with a personal electronic computer, the modern definition of a computer is literally: "A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information."A computer does not need to be electronic, nor even have a processor, nor RAM, nor even a hard disk.

2. memory
3. Data bus
4. Address bus

Hmmmm. I would define a computer as being a device that can calculate mathematical equations and statements, and can can perform complex functions using math. A computer does not necessarily have to be an electronic device (such as the Antikythera Mechanism, believed to be one of the earliest analog computers). Put simply, a computer is a device that rapidly executes different actions based on the input of the user.
