How is life as an Atheist?

For atheists, life is real.
For the theist life is pretend.
Simple enough difference.

Well, not every atheist in the world is the same... Some are having a rough time, some are joyful. As an atheist, I happen to be enjoying life.

For me, atheism is similar to being a solitary sane person, surrounded by hostile lunatics.

"Logic" alone is only half the battle. Physical evidence is the other half of the puzzle. Remember, the Church spent centuries burning harmless "heretics" at the stake for asserting that physical matter exists independently of mental processes. Christianity has never accepted that objective physical reality exists independently of subjective mental experience. Christians also refuse to accept that a living brain is the source of each person's conscious awareness, despite the overwhelming evidence.

This is an absurd question. There are atheist billionaires and atheist homeless people. Atheists who have had a happy loving life, and others who have been abused constantly.

Unless an atheist lives in a place where their (public) atheism leads to extreme hardship, their atheism doesn't much matter to their life at all, as far as whether that life will be a good one or not.

I don't know any other way - as far as I know I've always been 'atheist'.

I was raised by a mormon mother and a catholic father - nothing quite like having two sets of mutually exclusive dogma (both claiming to be 'the only true one') to make you reject both.

I've been an atheist for three years now and my life couldn't be better.

It's very similar to my life before I was an atheist.

I have found it to be more honest and joyful
than when I was worrying about displeasing
the vengeful God,
I had been imagining.

Now, I live in reality.

Depends where you live America go you'll be called devil worshiper, England no one could give less of a sh*t etc. if you mean as a daily way of life it can be quite fulfilling. You don't fear the disapproval of a nonexistent god if you do something against your rule book, you can do anything as long as it doesn't go against your morals

The only way primitive religion exists today is through the child abuse of forcing it into very, very young children but thanks to better education and growing intellects so many teens are able to discover the truth, throw off the indoctrination and step into the real world!

Atheism is not a conscious decision or a belief but a realisation, those that cannot escape remain prisoners of their conditioning!

The first person to produce a single tiny little piece of verifiable evidence for any god will become world famous and mega rich!

Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

I am Agnostic and I have never been more at peace with my spirituality. I grew up in a religious household and went to catholic school all the way through high school. I am an adult now, and I still have bad memories/flashbacks of the religious trauma I experienced. It really ruined my childhood. You are right to question religion. Keep questioning.

Imagine being blind your whole life, and suddenly gaining full sight. That is what it will be like.

Life doesn't change.
Well, except no religious services.
I went more as a child. Then, less and less.
I can't tell you the last time I went.
Except for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and funerals.

It's as you make it. There's no one size fits all answer.

It may also depend where you live. If you live in Iran, then much harder than it is in the USA, which is a little harder than it is in Europe. The prevailing culture will have a lot to do with what your life might be like. Will your family accept it? Is it illegal where you live?

But, it's entirely possible to live an entirely fulfilled and decent life as an atheist. You can also be an atheist and be a jerk. No one size fits all answer.

How is LIFE as an "ATHEIST " Don't confuse the word Atheist with to be WITHOUT RELIGION there are BOTH Atheistic and Theistic religions

lets start with the definition of RELIGION a CULTURAL SYSTEM of behaviors and practices world views ethics and TEXT of SOCIETAL ORGANIZATIONS that relate humanity to an order of existence WITH or WITHOUT deities or Gods

Atheist and Theist they are merely terms that address a SINGLE CONCEPT gods ... I am what you call a NON RELIGIOUS ATHEIST .

. but i do have friends who are RELIGIOUS ATHEIST that would be NON theistic Quakers Buddhist Confucians Taoist and Shinto ...

83.9% of people living in Japan are Shinto and or Buddhist 7.8 % are of another religion and 2 % are christian and they have been practicing Shinto / Buddhism for Centuries .

Rape in japan is ranked 1 the USA is ranked 27.3 ...27 times more than Japan
Violent crime with guns per 100 residents japan is ranked 158th at 0.6 in japan
in the USA it is 88.8 and is ranked 1st some 148 times japan

Now they by definition are Atheist without god and some people hear the word atheist and the hair on the back of their neck raises and a thought of EVIL person the ENEMY

.. lol well to give you a back ground i was a practicing Christian for 25 years a non religious theist for 5 years a religious atheist ( buddhist ) for 1 year and a Non religious Atheist for the last 33 Years ..

. so i have FREEDOM TIME ability to QUESTION have a Education been a nurse for 40 years have my own side business ( antiques) I am also a PROFITABLE fiber ARTIST for the last 30 years have more time more money follow civil law never committed a crime nor been arrested also married do not engage in rituals superstitions and try very hard to see people as individuals

i also have 16 SIBLINGS so they are very DIVERSE from christian to atheist married into different ethnicity and religions adopted children from other countries cultures and we get along well .... you have your life i have mine we do not impose on one another but learn from one another can participate in other peoples culture or customs and see them for what they are a way of life

I specialized in brain trauma and psychology . I understand how child development occur how Ideas notions and concepts are introduced and maintained in religions aka social groups and coercion and playing with emotion and peoples psychology .

. so Pretty great i do a lot of questioning research reading and some volunteering lots of donating and listening for peoples stories ANSWERS and most times their answers leads to more questions then my question WHY do you BELIEVE that is that really JUSTIFIED by EVIDENCE ?

being a non religious Atheist you get to say ok you claim it PROVE IT your burden I i don't want to join your club i do not NEED it i function and live my life well without it i have empathy compassion a sense of fairness and reciprocity and am a moral agent because being a moral agent is to have the ability to QUESTION and evaluate all laws rules related to HUMAN WELL being

because if you don't question your not being moral so my big question is How did you DETERMINE the God is MORAL if you did not first form your own morality to say the god is moral and are you being a moral agent by not questioning this god concept and the asserted behaviors in the story .

. so take thy shall not MURDER why not thy shall not KILL because see saying Murder is a FREE pass for Moses I can slaughter 3000 fellow Hebrews for resorting back to their original gods and be JUSTIFIED in KILLING them i if i claim my god said to I am justified its not MURDER god gave me permission to kill I can even stone to death children i declare disobedient god said i can or a man picking up stick on the sabbath or if i accuse a women of adultery

My god gave me permission to kill people for the god if i declare it just like ISIS most societies just use it now to discriminate against people because CIVIL law won't allow them to kill their kids or stone people

but i am more moral than that god concept because i would not even have in my thought process to kill people I have no NEED to nor desire to why would i divorce works allowing children to question is good and if you need sticks for a fire to keep warm it doesn't matter what day it is its a human need about human well being

The thing about religion is that you end up trying to conform to somebody elses ideas regarding how life should be lived. It therefore follows that not believing in the usual lies, also liberates you from having to play the game. You can make your own decisions without worrying about what other people think you should believe. Sooooo. It is a good way of taking control of your life without all of he bs.

The only thing you need to get used to is that your thoughts are your own... no one else can hear them - total privacy.

This life is but a speck of sand, eternally speaking. The better question is, "How is eternity as an atheist?" This world will cause any believer to have doubts at times. I encourage you to not be pulled away from God because of how things seem, or a rough spot you're going through. This world desires to use all of us up, and spit us out. It offers nothing in respect to true human fulfillment, only temporary kicks. You will see what I say to be true in time, should you continue on your path from God.

Don't confuse God with the church. Christ IS the truth. Get to know him and not what people say about him. In fact some atheists are probably so, because they have rightly rejected the false, but haven't identified the true.

Well, first of all although God would be sad to lose you she would not abandon you and would try to get you back. However, it's okay. I find the idea that God gives life meaning an onerous burden and wish I could go back to not believing sometimes.

Lonely and miserable. Introverts, gays, sociopaths, those type of people are more likely to be atheist.

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart.
