Do King Charles Cavaliers malt a lot?

No more than any other dog who isn't kept in clean hygienic surroundings I'd suggest. A healthy dog may have some 'doggie scent' to those not used to being around dogs, but it should never be offensive. If it is, then the dog has a medical problem - nasty niffs generally come from ears, teeth or anal glands.

As for moulting, although modern living, with our central heating and air con. has upset the natural cycle of our pets, the main shed will be after Winter, and again to a lesser extent, at the end of the Summer before the Winter coat starts coming in. But again provided you give your dog regular grooming, this need not be a probem.

Why don't you and your mum locate a reputable breeder via the Breed Club where you live and by appointment, go visit. Good breeders want their puppies to go to good homes so they should be willing to sit with you and answer your questions - and ask you as many back!

Yes, if you do not keep them clean they will smell, like any other dog, they have long fine hair and need regular bathing and grooming. they do moult a lot in the summer too.

All dogs moult. They shed twice a year in spring and autumn, and they lose some hair every day the rest of the year.
Dogs have greasy skin like we do, it keeps their hair waterproof. To manage the grease and odour we brush them every day and bathe them once every 6 months to a year. Healthy, well cared for dogs dont smell unless they are wet.
Neglected dogs have greasy coats and smell bad, bad teeth, ears and anal glands can also make them stink.

regular brushing on your part to keep matting under control......take the dog to a groomer every 12 to 14 weeks ...bath, brushing, a trim, nails done .the dog will love you for it and you will not have a problem with a smelly dog
