I'm renting an apt that has an inconsistent dog policy. Orig about 6mos back they didn't allow dogs over 50lbs. Since I've resigned . . .?

my lease in May 2016 I hadn't heard anything new. I called the office as someone looking to lease inquiring about their pet policy and a lady retuned my call leaving me a message saying the dog has to be under 250lbs. Today I went in trying to pay the pet fee since I've recently adopted a dog and after seeing a picture another lady tells me the dog has to be under 30lbs. Are they allowed to go back and forth about the weight restrictions and not have to abide by the message left saying something totally different?
Thank You

If you do not get it in writing they can always say the other person was mistaken. I am pretty sure the 250 was supposed to be something else like no more than 2 at 50 lbs each. Explain your dilemma and pay a fee and get something in writing SIGNED by managements rep! Good luck!

It should all be written into your lease. Look at your lease.

Nothing counts unless it is in writing, and signed or provided for in the document you have signed.

The next time someone tells you they will have a weight limit of 250 pounds in a rental, laugh- they're being sarcastic. Did you honestly think that could be true?It doesn't really matter what they say, because it isn't part of your contract. The only thing that matters is what is explicitly in your lease- no one else's and not something vague or assumed.

What you needed was written permission and a contract to allow the dog for a fee, before you adopted the dog. Good luck - I hope they let you stay. This type of situation accounts for far too many dogs in rescue, and any reputable rescue will require you to show them permission from your landlord BEFORE the adoption is made.

You should have read your lease. In real estate, everything has to be in writing to be valid. Oral promises and statements aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Sorry, but if you don't have it in writing, you don't have it. It doesn't exist.

Yes they are.
