Please can somebody give me a sensible answer? My mum is kind of considering a King Charles Cavalier but she's worried about leaving it at home whilst she's at work and I'm at school, she's also worried about it making the house smell (she's really house proud) and wrecking the furniture. King Charles have a calm and gentle temperament but does anybody have any suggestion on how I could explain this to her?

start by telling your mom how expensive it is owning a dog ..... dogs cost money ,lots of money ......first the cost of the dog .... health care is $900 to $1400 in the FIRST year alone....... $300 of that in the FIRST month... food bedding toys treats and a crate all cost money ...so add another $300 in the FIRST week .... you want a dog mom gets the bills ...... go play with your x box , or better yet go ride your bike

You don't. It's her house, her rules. Move out.

You can't. Don't try. It is her house and if she does not want the dog, there is very little chance of things turning out well for the dog.Thousands of dogs end up in rescue in situations like this.

Move out. She knows neither of you will ever take care of it and never clean up after it and she will be stuck with all the work

Unless mum is in agreement with this idea, you are on a hiding to nothing. Mum is quite right too - she's out at work and you are at school. What then for a puppy who needs somebody around most of the time at first, if just to get housetraining done. No adult dog should be left alone at home for more than 4 hours without the ability to empty either. Right now isn't the time, clearly, for you to be having a dog however much you might want one. And once the novelty wears off, and it will as you both move onto other things, especially at some point in the 10+ years of the dog's life, it will all land in mum's lap which if she's out working, won't be easy to cope with.

I'm afraid you will just have to find a less demanding pet and wait until you are old enough to move out on your own - even then having a dog, which is a luxury not a necessity, will depend on your finances, accommodation and time available.
