Calling all cat parents...is there any place online where I can buy the "good" cat food in bulk for cheaper than in stores?

Hi, I'm a cat foster mom, and between my fosters (all kittens) and my own cats, I have 9 hungry mouths to feed. Wet food is best, but man, does it get expensive! I was wondering if there was anywhere online where I could buy bulk wet food for cheaper. I"m picky about what I feed my cats so I'm talking about Science Diet, Royal Canin, Instinct, Blue Diamond, Wellness...quality brands. I haven't found anyplace, but I thought I'd ask.

Also, does Costco sell good cat food in bulk? I have never belonged, nor even stepped foot in one.

Real answers only please. Thanks so much!

Hi, I wanted to give HUGE thanks to the the wonderful people who suggested I try Chewy.com. They are my new best friend! Their prices are significantly cheaper than the big box stores, and they deliver for free within a day or two. The greatest thing is to order 40lb boxes of litter...and have some buff UPS guy carry it into my house instead of having to go to the store for it. I just can't say enough about Chewy. So many, many thanks again!

I'm not sure about a place you can buy in bulk and get a discount, but Chewy.com is cheaper than any pet stores I've been in and cheaper than any other online pet food retailer I've found too. They also have 5% off a lot of products when you sign up for repeat delivery (which can be canceled at anytime, and you can use it on every order), and free 1-3 day shipping on orders $49 or more. Science Diet and Royal Canine are not very good foods and they are much more expensive than they should be for their quality.

First both RC and Science Diet are way, way overpriced. They are filled with by-products (read the ingredients) and you are paying premium prices for fillers. The best way to get foods in bulk is to go online and order when they are on sale and have free shipping. Chewy's is good - I used to order from PetFoodDirect but no longer as their customer service is now awful, and I was getting too many squashed and damaged cases. You can also order online via Petsmart and Petco - they frequently have sales, too. Petsmart has their own Authority brand that is really decent - low grains, no by-products. It frequently goes on stale for 90 cents a can, and you can stock up then. Wellness comes in a 13 ounce can which is so much more economical than buying the 5.5 ounce ones. Amazon has cases cheaper, although I've heard mixed things - it totally depends on the merchant it's coming from. Costco I believe only has the grocery store brands, other than their own dry. It can very expensive buying all of that - I foster also, and the number of cans I go through daily is scary!

Chill out bernard. Try Amazon.

I'd buy online which I do with my hounds - from Zooplus (UK). You'll usually find it is cheaper than in stores, and delivered to your door too.

The problem with buying in bulk is once opened, bags deteriorate so your cats would have to be eating a lot, so the food doesn't go stale.

If you are fostering, isn't the Shelter assisting with the cost?

Another try is contacting the manufacter direct to see who their wholesalers are. Once in a while you might get a break but alias, they don't make bulk #10 cans restraint sized for pets, I guess they pretty much figure if you can afford the pet you can afford the food, no free passes for foster parents (or caretakers for those of us that have not heard of the foster programs inthe USA)

My inside cats are not the problem, it's keeping the 30 some odd barn cats fed a good dry kibble plus supplimenting with good quality canned food. I gave up the ghost and cook for the barn cats it's so much cheaper. (I have an assortment of feral that family and friends can handle, tamed - kittens they have had before we can spay or neuter our so called donated cats). Our kittens go to the different adoption centers on the weekends looking for homes (yearlings and under)

For the biggest discount for canned foods it's shopping the Internet, Amazon, Chewey and even dog.com all have great sales from time to time, stock up while on sale and usually orders over a certain amount are free. Good luck and thanks for being a foster caretaker.

you mean you're a 'cat owner' (jesus christ)
probably help if you mention where in the world you live, as there's no point listing a place in New South Wales if you live in California. I'm guess you're American though, due to the weird idea that you're a foster mum because you have a cat.
I have a goldfish, and I'm not related in any way apart from long distant DNA. I also have a lawn, but we don't talk much.
