When boron reacts with (concentrated) nitric acid, boric acid is produced.

Boron is oxidized to boric acid.
B(s) + 3H₂O(l) → H₃BO₃(aq) + 3H⁺(aq) + 3e⁻

Nitric acid is reduced to nitrogen dioxide.
NO₃⁻(aq) + 2H⁺(aq) + e⁻ → NO₂(g) + H₂O(l)

The overall ionic equation is :
B(s) + 3NO₃⁻(aq) + 3H⁺(aq) → H₃BO₃(aq) + 3NO₂(aq)
