How many SATA drives can I run with 750W PSU?

I current have i7 processor with 12GB RAM. GTX2600 video card with 4 HDD. When I tried to add one more SATA drive and I SSD drive, the computer slowed way down and I was not able to bring up disk management at all. Every click is painfully slow to respond. Some friends suggested that the power supply may not be able to support that many drives. So how much power do I need for 1 SATA drive 7200 or 5400... Should I go to a 1000W PSU? I am planning on building a NAS eventually but want to know what I should do in the mean time.

most mechanical hard drives consume on average about 10W in normal operation, about 24W during spin up, so I don't think the problem is with the power supply

What did you expect, that power supply was rated to run what was already fitted and no more.

Thank you. I looked up your provided datasheet and it appears my power supply should be able to handle the six hard drives. However, I cannot explain the slow down, which was right after I install the extra drives. The effect was instant. Also I could not bring up Disk Management, which have never happened before.
