Is the water safe to drink in Cancun, Mexico?

I am staying at a resort and I used the tap water to brush my teeth. I didn't realize that it would be unsafe, because I figured many other people did the same thing and if we all got sick, the hotel would be in trouble. I know someone who recently got back from Cancun and they are now hospitalized due to dysentery. Yesterday, my dad had to stay in bed all day becuase he felt like someone was twisting his intestines and he had terrible diarhhea. I will now used bottled water to brush my teeth. Can I get sick?????

I have always used tap water to brush my teeth in Cancun, but I've always stuck with bottled water when drinking. Most resorts do have safe water, but there are may ways to come into contact with contaminated water in Mexico.

the resort hotels do try to provide safer water. It's more likely to have been the food or the water you were swimming in that made your father sick. The sickest I've EVER been was at the end of a trip to Cancun, but I used bottled water.

You should ask the front desk if there is "agua potable" on tap. If it isn't the hotel should provide bottled water as a matter of routine.
