If I rent an apartment, am I allowed to let my boyfriend spend the night?

I've always rented a home from my mom so I'm unaware of how things work.

I'm looking for an apartment. My boyfriend usually spends the night a few times a week with me. Is that allowed at apartments? Do I have to let them know? Will they charge extra? I'm willing to pay for an extra parking space. Many thanks for any insight!

I would check it with the apartment company, it usually depends on the complex!! :))

Landlords usually allow an overnight guest 3 nights a month. You must notify
them. It's a fire identification law to know who all is in the building.
Each apartment has 1 parking spot and visitors vehicles will be towed. Another
reason notification is required.

I am a landlord. In my properties, your boyfriend would be considered a tenant and would be required to sign the lease.
I allow guests to stay overnight no more than 10 days in a rolling 90 day period. Any more than that requires written permission.
In my properties, if you do not obtain written permission for frequent or long-stay overnight guest(s), you have breached the lease and are subject to eviction.
Every landlord has different rules, and you should be clear with any prospective landlord about your intentions.

depends on what your LEASE says about guests - you might be limited on the number of night per month he can stay over

Most apartments have a maximum number of nights a guest can stay over

Different landlords have different rules on this subject, but the most common is your guest is welcome to spend the night, but only a specific numbers of times (like 14-21 nights) during the course of the lease. It will be in the lease, so you may be better off designating him as an occupant of the property before you sign the lease which make him recognized as a resident instead of a guest. But if you do he will likely have to go through a background check too increasing your application fee. Again different landlords handle this issue differently. For example where I live they usually increase the rent when the landlord covers one or more of the utilities. I hope this helps.
