Children make easier targets. They will believe just about anything an adult tells them unless the child already knowledge that contradicts it. This is a valuable trait in evolution because it helps the child learn quickly, but it has an unfortunate side effect of children also believing any BS that parents tell them, too.

As a result of this, religion is passed on from parents to children more reliably than eye color.

Religious families are doing what families have done since families existed-- they are raising their child in their beliefs, values, traditions, etc.

If they did not do this, it would have disastrous psychological and sociological effects on the child. You can't raise a kid in a vacuum and not expose him to your entire life's philosophy and way of life. It just doesn't work like that.

They do it without understanding that they are doing it because they have been brainwashed as well. Religion is like a disease that spreads from person to person through communication and once infected the person suffering from it feels the desire to pass it on. Hope this helps.

Because of their innate superstition they believe that they must indoctrinate the kid in order to save it's soul..

They don't, but the same could be said for non-religious families who "brainwash" their children into believing there is no God.
