Advice for writing a historical fiction novel?
I really want to write a historical fiction novel about a transgender teenager because I think it's a good idea and I think it would be interesting to write something like that.
But what era do I write in? 1950s? 1920s? 1870s? 16th Century? Can someone please advise me on which era would be the most interesting to write in? Thank you.

The setting is key to the story - it's up to YOU to decide which decade is best to tell your story in.
In the 1920's there was a rich growth in gender performance, drag and open gay communities. In large cities and especially in Europe. Look at the musical Cabaret, read about Einar Weneger and the LGBT presence in Harlem Rennaisance.
In English theatre during Shakespeare's time female parts were played by males. Other than that, the era you know most about
The movie "The Danish Girl" that is about the first person to ever have sex reassignment surgery is set in the 1920s and since it's a very recent movie you might want to avoid that era, people might see a connection. Other than that, it's your novel so choose whatever you like the most.
Whichever era intrigues you the most.
