How would you prepare 2-butanol from 1-propanol?

Step 1 :
Convert CH₃CH₂CH₂OH to CH₃CH₂CHO by heating with potassium dichromate solution acidified with dilute sulfuric acid, and collect the aldehyde product by distillation simultaneously.

Step 2 :
Convert CH₃CH₂CHO to CH₃CH₂CH(OH)CH₃ by treating with CH₃MgCl in dry ether (to form CH₃CH₂CH(OMgBr)CH₃ first) followed by hydrolysis with a weak acid.
