You have an unknown compound of Potassium derivatives (KlxOy). This sample contains 17.0g of potassium, and 27.8g of oxygen and 55.2g of iodine. If you prepared another sample, but this time it had 460.0g of potassium periodate, how much oxygen and iodine would you have in your sample?

a) 32 gr, 507.06 gr 200.1g
b? 64 gr, 253.9 gr
c) 96 gr, 507.06 gr
d) 128 gr, 253.9 gr

Molar mass of KIO₄ (potassium periodate) = (39.0 + 126.9 + 16.0×4) g/mol = 229.9 g/mol
Mass fraction of O in KIO₄ = 16.0×4/229.9 = 64.0/229.9
Mass fraction of I in KIO₄ = 126.9/229.9

In 460.0 g of KIO₄ :
Mass of 0 = (460.0 g) × (64.0/229.9) = 128 g
Mass of I = (460.0 g) × (126.9/229.9) = 253.9 g

...... The answer is: d) 128 g, 253.9 g
