This is a question but also a reminder to anyone in South-East Texas.

The wasp is a "Great Golden Digger Wasp - (Sphex ichneumoneus)"

I've woken up twice this week with a wasp trying to get out of my window. The first time, I ruthlessly smashed it with a foam sword. This time, however, I felt much better because I released him outside.

My question, is will the wasp be able to find its way to get back in my house?

Wasps can often find their way indoors especially any open doors or windows.
What is nice about these particular wasps is they are not much aggressive.
Because they are predatory sorts, the fruit trick I use may not work, but if they are thirsty, they may be attracted to something like natural honey, crushed ripe fruit, or jelly in a small saucer, then just escort them outside. The nectar feeding wasps, this works quite well.
The option is catching them in a deli cup and paper trick, and releasing them outside.
Unless you go swatting at them or threatening them, they don't have a habit of stinging.
I have attracted paper wasps to eat bits of fruit from my hand and never stung doing that.
