I have no support system in my life?
I am a 30 year old female with a bachelors degree in psychology. I've had the hardest time getting career started. I've never had anyone guide me and I was very naive throughout my teens and early twenties. I met my ex boyfriend after graduating college who is an engineer and he really helped me. My family has always thought of me as not intelligent enough to do much the only reason they had me go to college was for their own relevancy so they could tell people I had a degree because it sure as hell wasn't for any other reason. All through school my parents told me just get a C, just pass your class. It hurts me that no one wants anything for me and doesn't believe in me. I know at my age I should be stronger and ignore it but there's always that inner voice or self doubt. I don't have anybody in my life that I can really talk to. My parents have told me over and over again from the time I started school that I have learning disabilities. How do you overcome negativity in your life? I feel myself just slowly sucombing to all the negativity and just giving up.

RUN--DON'T WALK--TO YOUR NEAREST COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH AGENCY AND CONSULT A COUNSELOR, PSYCHOLOGIST OR PSYCHIATRIST! FEES ARE BASED UPON THE PERSON'S ABILITY TO PAY, AND IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!! I KIND OF "HIT BOTTOM" WHEN I WAS MID-30-ish, AND STARTED SEEING A PSYCHOLOGIST AT THE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER IN BERKELEY. FEES ARE BASED ON THE PERSON'S ABILITY TO PAY....AND IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY! THAT IS A BEGINNING OF YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM...AS YOU BEGIN BUILDING YOUR OWN BASE OF SUPPORT! STAY WITH IT UNTIL YOU GET "YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND"! YOU CAN DO IT! (I'M AN 86 YR OLD WOMAN...AND HAVE A GOOD LIFE. I'LL ALWAYS BE THANKFUL FOR THE HELP I RECEIVED LONG AGO AT THE BERKELEY MENTAL HEALTH AGENCY! THEY WILL HELP YOU BUILD YOUR OWN SUPPORT SYSTEM! FEES ARE BASED ON EACH INDIVIDUAL'S ABILITY TO PAY! YOU'LL NEVER REGRET IT! ALMOST EVERY COMMUNITY HAS THIS SUPPORT SYSTEM AVAILABLE..AND FEES ARE BASED UPON ONE'S ABILITY TO PAY! THERE, YOU WILL START BUILDING YOUR BASE, and DEVELOPING YOUR OWN SUPPORT SYSTEM!---P.S...ONE LARGE PROBLEM THAT YOU HAVE, IS YOUR MAJOR---PSYCHOLOGY! THERE JUST IS NO MARKET FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS.
self-doubt comes often to us. We must be on our guard against such things.
understand where negativity pops up and find the source, so you can go around them and avoid it entirely.
It is the thinking and the trapping negativity combining to form suffering. You need to work at angles so you can go around the trapping dot and never touched it anymore. Don't think about it and move on.
A person who has since childhood been told that they are not very bright and therefore not to try too hard internalizes this label and as a result have pretty low self esteem. The fact that you have a degree in Psychology however tells a different story and congratulations are due for your achievement. So what can you do from here? I would suggest that you use your qualification to work in the voluntary sector part time. When you do so and find that you have the power to help people improve their lives, this will in turn help you to transform your negative assessment of yourself. When I was in practice I devoted 10 hours per week to those referred to me without the means to pay my fees or to the Samaritans in a phone counselling line. The best thing that happened was my late adopted father, who had the same attitude to me as your parents do, one day said that I had made him proud.
You're a psychologist, use your training to heal yourself. Trust yourself. Make relevant friends, go to church. Forgive, forget, and move forward with your life. All our parents ruin us for life. It's up to each one of us to find our way, by ourselves.
