Not caring what others think...a good thing?

Is a lack of social shame a good thing? People always talk about doing, being and acting as they like...without worrying about how it is perceived. But what if someone does not feel any social shame at all. They really don't care what other people think.

Would this not limit them socially? Where would they get their leverage/motivation to engage people in a socially acceptable/positive way?

Yes it is a good thing unless you live only to fit in.
If you do then others control your life.

"Caring what others think" can have more than one meaning. One of them is about social shame, the other is not. It's the other that provides the motivation for positive social engagement.
