Why are schools still allowed to teach our young that the Earth is round?

Because it IS round. People at the South Pole ARE upside down from the perspective of people on the opposite part of the globe, and they are upside down from the perspective of people at the South Pole. There is a thing called gravity. Perhaps you've heard of it. It keeps us all on the ground and not floating away. If the Earth was flat, there would, by now, have been explorers who reached the edge of the Earth. To get to another part of the globe, they'd have to turn around. It would seem quite ignorant to think every planet in our solar system is a "ball" except for Earth. What would be UNDERNEATH a flat Earth? How can you fly from Paris to New York, then to Los Angeles, then to Japan, then to Moscow, then to Paris again without finding the "end of the Earth"? You just go in a circle around the round Earth. I would make a facetious comment, but I kind of think this is a joke question. So, I wouldn't want to imply the people who do NOT believe in a round Earth are the really ignorant ones.

I have a feeling you did not pay attention in middle school ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) During a lunar eclipse, the Earth is in between the moon and the sun and the Earth's ROUND shadow is cast onto the moon's surface. If the Earth was flat, there would be no shadow/or every part of the world would be roughly in the same time zone.

People at the South Pole are "upside down" compared to those on the North Pole. If they are not careful maybe they will fall off. In Australia we have to be careful as we may fall side ways . Kangaroos have long tails, not to help them jump but to wrap them around trees so they won't fall.

In ancient Rome Era, ancients didn't acquire much scientific knowledge so they assumed that the earth was in the shape of a plane. And since then on, scientists have been continuing to explore the nature by means of observation and testing of facts as the result they know that the earth is in the shape of a globe and there is a gravitational force in its centre to hold everything.without falling.

The last successfull attempt to prove Earth is round was by Ferdinand Magelan the Portuguese sea traveller who started his journey from Portugal and ended it in Portugal again.
The first person who gave evidences of rounding of Earth, was Erathostenos the greek scientist (perhaps i misspelled it), who even calculated Earth's circumference.

look at the curvature of the earth, and the fact that boats do not drop over the horizon, no matter where you go. Go to the top of a mountain, tall hill, building, etc, and see the earth is curved, so it's round. How do you explain the sunset? If it was flat wouldn't it shrink, anywhere you go?

The evidence shows it is round. At one time, the earth being round was only a theory. We now have actual pictures of the earth taken from space that shows that the earth is round. Gravity is the real question here. People are upside down on the South Pole but don't know it because gravity holds them down so their feet are on the earth!!!
