So if a co worker asks me to go in for about 1 hour or so while she is at a doctors appointment, is my boss supposed to pay me for 3 hours even if i am scheduled that same night to work a 5hour shift? Or is this only when they ask you to come in for an hour and thats it for the day?? Hard to explain i hop someone will understand! Thanks!
更新1:

For example: I came in for 11 today and will be here about 1 hour and a half then i will go home and come back for my 4:30-9:30 shift. I am wondering if for that hour i came in if i should get it paid for 3 hours or no since i will be back in ??? Thanks

You agreed to do your co worker a favor. That's that. Your boss does not owe an extra three hours because you agreed to work one hour as a favor to your co-worker. You are right, the boss is required to pay you a three hour shift if your boss asks you to come in.. but not if you are doing a favor for a co-worker arranged between the two of you.

check with your local labour branch

Unless you are in one of the few states that have a minimum of 4 hours for call outs you will get paid for the hours you work. And this may not be considered a call out because the management didn't call you another employee did.

Look up "split shift" on your state's dept. of labor website. It may not apply since a co-worker instead of your boss asked you to cover.

You should be paid for the time you work - regardless of whether you're working your own or someone else's shift.
