Yes, they produce seeds. However, very few people grow onions from seeds. They buy "onions sets" which are basically tiny onion bulbs which grow into the large onions which you see in the grocery store.
There are onion seeds, but most people plant them as bulbs. Someone must plant seeds, or we would not have bulbs to plant huh
Once an onion reaches maturity it sends up a flower stalk. The flowers are pollinated by bees and other bugs and seeds form there. Often when this happens the onion under the ground will start to degrade as it is using up it's energy to reproduce.
Yes onions have seeds . You can grow onions by means of seeds and by means of small onions .
Onion seeds are available. You need to plant the seeds. The seedlings produce green leaves which are hollow and cylindrical. At the base they develop a thick cluster which is called as radial leaves and they form the onion bulb which is used by us,
If you let an onion plant continue to grow later in the year, it will flower and produce seeds. This year we had a couple of onions that grew from seeds because we did not pull all of last year's onions before the bolted (flowered).
In one garden I grew chives for many years in a row just by letting some of the stalks bolt every year. I didn't even deliberately plant the seeds I just let them fall into the same location each year. The exact location of the chives moved around year to year in that garden, a few inches in a random direction each year.
If an onion is left inthe ground toa secondseason itwill send up a flower spike about 3 feet tall, topped with a sphericalflower head alittle smaller then a tennis ball, consisting of numerous small white flowers, followed by seed pods, eachcontaining 3 hard, black seeds, which can be used as a herb.
Onion can be grown in maney ways .
1- Just plant the onion
2- Cut the bottom root half inch above and put it in the water ,start to run the root and then you can plant it .
3- You need to let onion grown its cycle and then a mid branch with kind of flower will appear ,the seeds ,which are very small are inside the flower .you need to dry them in shad and cold place and then germinate them in moist napkin or steam plastic pot.
Onions are especially easy to grow; they need only a fairly rich soil, and regular watering. Applications of fertilizer several times a year will make them grow faster. You can plant onion sets (baby onions from gardening stores) all winter and up through April in mild climates; in harsh-winter climates, plant them in early spring. After three weeks, you can begin to pull them up, but they'll be white, moist, and perishable at this stage. Seeds need about 5 months to mature; while sets ( baby onion) need 3 to 4 months. After tops die back, pull the onion bulbs out of the ground and let them cure on surface for several days. The dry onions can be stored safely for considerable periods of time.

Onions do have seeds, but a person usually plants onion sets (young plants) to get them started in a garden.
