its like debating the existence of air

without either you would not exist, so its rather a stupid thing to debate

Because they have nothing to back them up.
Go ahead and get mad at me, Christians.
You have no evidence.
At all.

If you do have evidence, the whole world is waiting on you.

The honest ones know there's no evidence for their position and that it's indefensible.

The dishonest ones don't understand basic logic and rhetoric and therefore are incapable of having an honest debate. Case in point: theists answering this question.

A debate requires a two way dialogue. Christians have no evidence to support their position so have to remain silent.

While we are to defend out faith, debating is almost like shoving the gospel down your throat. To me, God has given us a task to spread the gospel of peace, and so I go to spread it. If you've heard it and just want to argue it, then I'm not going to bother really. You've obviously set your heart against it. If however you seem interested and just have some issues, I have no problem explaining things to someone in defense of the gospel, but there is that matter of heart that's important. Debating I don't believe has really ever brought someone to true faith in Christ. You find God by seeking him. By debating, you kind of turn people away from wanting to seek Christ. That's my opinion however. There is no scripture that says not to debate that I'm aware of.

its difficult to debate when the person on the other side just hurls defamatory accusations about being delluded and unintelligent and never lets the christian get a single word in.
2016-07-06 6:07 pm
See what you did? Now you have to debate whether they like to debate. Of course you could debate whether you have to debate that... Everything in R&S is debatable!
2016-07-06 6:11 pm
The smart ones don't bother because they know they have no evidence for their beliefs. So the only ones left who want to debate are dinguses like Lion-O who are mentally deficient
2016-07-06 6:04 pm
Nonsense. We debate it all the time.
2016-07-06 6:05 pm
i'll debate you but chances are that you are too closed minded to fathom the possibility of a deity to exist at all.
2016-07-06 6:10 pm
Generalize much?

In my experiences with debating the subject, I've found that quite a few atheists resort to name calling and insults fairly quickly. To be fair, I've witnessed the same from Christians.

My conclusion is that people find it extremely difficult to discuss their beliefs in an objective manner, and many atheists have that quirk as well.

I tend to question an atheist's reason for becoming atheist in the first place. Especially when I question the scientific understanding of their beliefs. Which makes them angry. Once again, to be fair, I see that same reaction in theists.

I can discuss my belief in God with anyone without getting angry or hurt. Even when the atheist I'm talking to acts stupidly and starts with the insults. That only proves to me that they aren't as strong in their convictions as they pretend them to be.

What is there to debate? The existence is an absolute truth.

Why do Christians not like debating about the existence of God?

Some do, but all they have is blind faith, logical fallacies, blind faith, illogical conclusions, blind faith, disproved statements, blind faith, unsubstantiated claims, blind faith, ambiguous and unverified scripture that's been heavily falsified, blind faith, ignorance of science, blind faith, bad maths that has nothing to do with evolution, blind faith, and an ignorance of their own history.

And failing that, we have those too stupid to realize why Psalms 14:1 is a really bad argument that only serves to point out how stupid the person using that argument actually is.

The existence of God does not need any debate.
GOD DOES EXIST.
Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

GOD IS THE CREATOR. As the Bible says:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters......

God’s Word gives specific advice concerning the types of unrighteousness that Christians must renounce or reject. For instance, in the immediate context of 2 Timothy 2:19, we find that Paul tells Timothy “not to fight about words” and to “reject empty speeches.” ( 2 Timothy 2:14, 16, 23.) Also, it appears that others were introducing controversial ideas. Even if the latter were not directly unscriptural, they were divisive. They resulted in bickering and arguing over words, creating a spiritually unhealthy atmosphere. Paul stressed the need to “reject foolish and ignorant debates.” Today, God’s people are not often confronted with debating within the congregation. Still, when exposed to unscriptural teachings, regardless of the source, we must decisively reject them. It would be unwise to engage in debates, whether in person, by responding to their blogs, or by any other form of communication. Even when the intention is to help the individual, such conversation would be contrary to the Scriptural direction we just considered. Rather, as God’s people, we completely avoid, yes reject, debating.

When the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was on earth, he sent out his followers to announce the good news about God’s heavenly government. (Matthew 10:7) In fact, he instructed his disciples in the manner in which they should present this unusual and important message at each home and what steps to take where householders failed to show genuine interest. “When you are entering into the house, greet the household; Wherever anyone does not take you in or listen to your words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off your feet.”—Matthew 10:12-14. Shaking the dust off one’s feet indicated a disclaiming of responsibility or accountability for the consequences that a householder would suffer because of lack of interest in God’s message. It implied that Jesus’ followers were peacefully departing and leaving that house or city to the consequences that would eventually come from God.

There is nothing to debate. It is pointless.

Here's what you do not understand.

It is not my job to prove God's existence. That is God's job, and he is doing just fine. God does not need my help in any way to accomplish that objective.

Romans chapter one instructs us that God has revealed himself to EVERYONE. God says they are "without excuse." There are those who choose to believe, and those who choose to not believe. Again, God says they are "without excuse."

And those who do not believe, well, it says their senseless minds will be DARKENED. What does that mean? That means you will not see what we see. So if you have made up your mind about not believing in God, trying to convince you of anything is just a waste of time. Does that make sense to you?

the existence of the biblical God is common sense.
''common sense'' comes from God.

unbelievers are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart.

atheists have God-given common sense and they argue against those Who they hate

no matter how good the argument, atheists will pile up reasons to "not believe"
discussions on why they hate God might be just as fruitful
2016-07-06 6:03 pm
They are too busy communing with God and fellow believers. Let atheists figure it out.

Why debating something that is real. All evidence proves that God exists. The most complex thing in the universe is the human brain. It functions more than the most complex and fastest computer ever built by man. Is it debatable then that such a complex thing like the brain is not created by an all powerful being.

Yes, the Bible provides compelling evidence that God exists. It encourages us to build faith in God, not by blindly believing religious assertions, but by using our “power of reason” and “mental perception.” (Romans 12:1; 1 John 5:20, footnote) Consider the following lines of reasoning based on the Bible:

The existence of an orderly universe containing life points to a Creator. The Bible says: “Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but the one who constructed all things is God.” (Hebrews 3:4) Although this logic is simple, many well-educated people find it to be powerful. *
As humans, we have an innate desire to understand the meaning and purpose of life, a type of hunger that can remain after our physical needs have been met. This is part of what the Bible calls our “spiritual need,” which includes the desire to know and worship God. (Matthew 5:3; Revelation 4:11) This spiritual need not only gives evidence that God exists but also indicates that he is a loving Creator who wants us to satisfy that need.—Matthew 4:4.
Detailed prophecies in the Bible were written centuries ahead of time and came true exactly as predicted. The accuracy and detail of those predictions strongly suggest that they came from a superhuman source.—2 Peter 1:21.

Bible writers had scientific knowledge that was beyond the understanding of their contemporaries. For example, in ancient times many peoples believed that the earth was supported by an animal, such as an elephant, a boar, or an ox. In contrast, the Bible says that God is “suspending the earth upon nothing.” (Job 26:7) Similarly, the Bible correctly describes the shape of the earth as a “sphere,” or “globe.” (Isaiah 40:22, footnote; Douay Version) Many people feel that the most reasonable explanation for such advanced understanding is that Bible writers received their information from God.

The Bible answers many difficult questions, the type of questions that when not satisfactorily answered can lead a person to atheism. For example: If God is loving and all-powerful, why is there suffering and evil in the world? Why is religion so often an influence for bad rather than for good?—Titus 1:16.

They believe god properly. Its a main things of religion.

It makes me mad that you question are reason of life and safety and if you are there just to slander and point out nonbeliever questions it's better not to debate with you and it's annoying why should we have to give you proof
why do you have to see with your eyes to believe in the power one day it will be too late to ask for forgiveness....

Religions (religious people) of any kind rarely - no - never likes people to question their beliefs
2016-07-06 8:02 pm
How would this debate go! God exist! No, he doesn't! Yes, he does. No, he doesn't.

How much sense is there in debating things when people who argue cannot reach agreement on the most basic of things. Creationists believe that God is the cause of all things. Atheists believe nothing is the cause of all things. Where is there any foundation to base a debate on! It is absent - entirely.
2016-07-06 7:10 pm
Weak faith and the very real fear of those that have the education and intellect to know the truth and live in reality!

It is the ONLY religion that is so intolerant towards others and hates like it!

I can't speak for Christians in general, but I do.

People who are sure about God's existence hate such debates. It is natural. God exists. The evidence is still in all.

I once had a very short debate with an atheist. I would ask well how has science not able to prove this or that. He kept saying not as yet, I ended the debate with not as yet.
2016-07-06 9:02 pm
We walk by faith and not by sight but some people have the seeing is believing attitude. Many Christians can share their testimony of how they felt God speaking or working in their life but to some Atheists that is not hard enough evidence.
2016-07-06 7:13 pm
For many it's the other way around.
2016-07-06 6:19 pm
Same doggon reason that the atheists like debating about non-existence of God. " I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG" ! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! crash ! bang! crunch! clang! smach!
2016-07-06 6:13 pm
I debate everything, informally.

Perhaps not everyone who hears this word "God" understands it to signify something than which nothing greater can be thought, seeing that some have believed God to be a body. Yet, granted that everyone understands that by this word "God" is signified something than which nothing greater can be thought, nevertheless, it does not therefore follow that he understands that what the word signifies exists actually, but only that it exists mentally. Nor can it be argued that it actually exists, unless it be admitted that there actually exists something than which nothing greater can be thought; and this precisely is not admitted by those who hold that God does not exist.

Reality is never open for debate

God is - period

Psa 14:1 [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]] The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

It is not a Problem... To debate about the existence of God with the purpose of both circular reasonings... Where is the Interesting Spiritual Purpose of this kind of debate...

"In his haughtiness, the wicked man makes no investigation;
All his thoughts are: “There is no God.”" (Psalms 10:4. Bible).

What would you like to debate about, Tyler? Did you know that the first verse of the Bible is so mathematically perfect that mathematicians have been trying to replicate it using another language for more than 150 years and are still unable to do so?
