Parents: Is it normal for a child to have extra fat before puberty? Will it go away?

these days yes because of the junk in foods we have available and a culture of sitting indoors playing with electronics .. it will go away if they get active and eat better ..

"Kiki" might be right, it could just be lingering baby fat from a decade or so ago. It can be kinda embarrassing to still call it "baby fat" in middle age, so try to come up with another cutesy name for it by then.

In the unlikely event it magically goes away on it's own have a big party to celebrate. I have only seen 1 case of this happening, but she stopped with all the junk food and spent hours in dance class. If you find that changing her diet doesn't work, talk to her pediatrician about ways to make your child healthier.

Yes, that could just be baby fat. Most likely it will go away as they get older. Mine did and I have seen many cases of this. If you find that it doesn't, talk to the pediatrician about ways that specifically your child could be healthier.

Of course it is. It's the body's way of preparing for puberty.
