Is it possible to get braces without getting molds?

I believe that technology has come far enough that we don't need the horrid torture of goo any longer. It seems easy enough to scan the teeth with a laser and have the computer process the data into a 3D model, possibly with the help of x-rays, and have the braces and such be put together using that. Is this fact? Or just wishful thinking?

Yes its possible, my orthodontist bases treatment off a special CAT scan 3d X-Ray machine, so i didn't need to go through molds.

I know there are other technologies, but not every orthodontist has the newest, best technology, so molds may still be necessary.

There actually is a scanner that can eliminate the need for the "goo" of the molds.
Here are several different systems --

But, not every orthodontist has moved forward and is using that technology.
And it doesn't take the place of x-rays.
