Should I lie about the duration of my previous job?

I'm 17, and currently applying for a fast food job. The only other place I worked was at McDonald's, but that was 2 years ago! Also, I only worked there for 5 months!
Should I say I worked there longer? Would the hiring manager even check? And more importantly, do they even care how long I worked at McDonald's?
I would figure that they don't care because I'm only 17 and because this is only a fast food job. Right? Or is it bad that I've been unemployed for 2 years?

Advice is appreciated! Thanks!

So many things can go wrong if you lie, it is not worth it. They may start asking you questions in an interview like "if you worked their so long, why were you not promoted?". They may ask questions that only someone who has recently been employed would know, like about any recent increases in minimum wages, health care, or how the new employment laws affected you. Without doing some intensive research, you are not going to be able to answer those very simple questions unless you were actually involved in all that when you said you were employed.

I wouldn't lie since you can get caught in the lie and look bad..you come from a fast food place to another so It wouldn't matter I don't think even the 2 year gap would worry since you are young if they ask about that just say you were focusing on your school or something in that manner.

You're 17. You are applying for a fast food job. Just tell the truth.

Why would they care especially about not working. You are at school, its not compulsory to get a job.

Don't lie. (They can and likely will found out).
Any period of unemployment will be questioned, but give a generic excuse about 'studying', 'travelling', and 'finding yourself'.
Most employers will not be expecting a 17 year old to have much, if any, work experience so the gap in employment won't be much of a issue - getting caught lying on the other hand, would be.

never lie about something that is EASY TO VERIFY

If they ask for a reference, you're screwed.

dunno

It's better to be honest, and they likely won't care.

I think you should totally lie. If they want to check say it was in another state or that it has since gone out of business. Fast food deserves what it gets. No mercy!
