I'm not sure where you think the metal detector is. You bags are scanned and the TSA agents look at the sizes and shapes of items in your baggage. You, personally, might go through a metal detector, although more airports are now using the body scanner that would detect anything concealed on your body. Your checked luggage will be both scanned and sniffed.

No, it's not metal so it won't be detected by a metal detector.

However, if you are carrying it on you and go through a body scanner (which are more commonly used in airports now), then it will show up. If it is in your bag that goes through the x-ray, then it will show up there too.

If you call drug dogs detectors, then yes. Even if you have only got some residue on your clothes or luggage they will pick it up.

No, it isn't. So, metal detectors wouldn't detect it. However, like Redstone said, if you have any on you in a body scanner, that will see it, as will an x-ray machine looking at your bags.
